L. Timothy Portwood

Of Counsel, Vice President for Development, Stanford Hospitals & Clinics

Education: Stanford University, A.B., Duke University, J.D.
Residence: San Francisco, California

Tim became an Of Counsel member of Marts & Lundy upon being named Vice President for Development at Stanford Hospital & Clinics in July 2009. He had joined Marts & Lundy as a Senior Consultant in 2008 following a 21-year career in Stanford University’s office of development.

Tim began his development career in foundation and corporate relations during Stanford’s Centennial Campaign, the nation’s first $1 billion campaign. He later led the corporate and foundation program in the School of Engineering and served as a major gift officer in the central development office before joining the management team as Director of University Campaigns in 1998, becoming Assistant Vice President in 2004. He served as chief architect and campaign director for Stanford’s two most recent campaigns – the $1.1 billion Campaign for Undergraduate Education and The Stanford Challenge (currently well on its way to reaching its goal of $4.3 billion).

Prior to his career at Stanford, Tim practiced law in San Francisco for 8 years.

During his time as a Senior Consultant with Marts & Lundy, Tim served a variety of clients in the higher education, environmental, arts and culture, and independent school sectors.
