Mary Ruth Carleton joined Marts & Lundy with more than 25 years of advancement experience in higher education and healthcare. She served the last 12 years as Vice President of University Relations and Development and President and CEO of the Campanile Foundation at San Diego State University. At SDSU, Mary Ruth planned and led the university’s first ever comprehensive campaign. With a goal of $500 million, the “Campaign for SDSU” reached $815 million in 2017, and is the largest campaign to date in the California State University system.
Prior to joining San Diego State, Mary Ruth was Senior Associate Vice President for Development for the University of San Francisco where she built the major gift program for the university’s successful $175M campaign. She also worked as a Vice President for Development for Scripps Foundation in La Jolla, California.
Prior to her career in advancement, Mary Ruth spent 17 years in the broadcast news industry. She was an Emmy award-winning reporter and news anchor in major TV markets.
Mary Ruth has served on the board of CASE District VII and for many years has held a number of roles in the annual CASE District VII Conferences. She currently serves on the board of the American Red Cross in San Diego and has been a board member for the California Alumni Association.
