Gene joined Marts & Lundy in January 2017 after more than 26 years at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, most recently as the Senior Development Advisor to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation. He brings with him significant experience in board governance, coaching executive and senior leadership, campaign leadership as well as marketing and public relations.
Gene joined Children’s in 1989 as president of the Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center Foundation and led the Foundation until the merger of Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center and Egleston Children’s Hospital in 1998. At that time he was elected the first President of the new Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation. He then led the Children’s Foundation for 17 years through the implementation of a highly effective succession plan in 2015.
His many accomplishments include leading Children’s largest campaign, One to Grow On: The Campaign for Children’s, achieving $294 million in five years and far surpassing its initial goal of $230 million.
Gene served as an active member of the Woodmark Group, a coalition of 26 major children’s hospitals across North America and was its Chair from 2012-2014. He also has 18 years of experience in estate and trust administration working with development and execution of planned and current gifts.
He graduated with honors from Furman University with his bachelor’s degree in business and received his master’s degree in management from Georgia State University.
