Kathy Hanson came to Marts & Lundy as a full time senior consultant in 2008, bringing with her nearly 20 years of experience at independent schools. Prior to joining the firm full-time, Kathy was at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as Vice President for Advancement & External Affairs. In this capacity, she directed development, admissions and financial aid, alumni relations, parent relations, communications and the 1200-student day/boarding school.
Prior to Baylor School, Kathy served as Director of Institutional Advancement at The Fessenden School in West Newton, Massachusetts, from 1994-1999. She was responsible for all development functions for the 550 boys day/boarding school.
Kathy is an active volunteer and presenter at workshops and seminars. Her nationally known expertise in marketing led NAIS to select Kathy as editor of The NAIS Handbook on Marketing Independent Schools (published 2011). She is a member of the Marts & Lundy Board of Directors and served as leader of the schools practice group from 2011 until 2016.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of The Enrollment Management Association and serves as Chair of the Emerging Trends Committee.
For the past 20 years, Kathy has served as co-creator and faculty, with marketing consultant Jeff Wack, on the Independent School Strategic Marketing Institute. While officially ‘work,” she finds the experience of spending time with 65 or so school advancement professionals each year invigorating.
Cooking is a passion she loves to share with family and friends and some of her most treasured moments are spent walking the beach in Sanibel Island, Florida, where she and her family spend three months each winter.
She’s a dedicated sports fan with a particular love of college basketball.
