Marts & Lundy is pleased to add John Ford to our Of Counsel ranks where he will be available to provide assistance to our environmental and higher education clients. John is currently affiliated with the ClimateWorks Foundation, a global family of organizations that serves to enact legislation and public policy designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions around the globe and limit the increase in global warming to 2 °C. John works with the board and senior management of ClimateWorks and its affiliated Best Practices Networks organizations to generate billions of dollars for the climate and energy fields.
John began his development career at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the University of Chicago before returning in 1977 to his alma mater, Stanford University, to head the major gifts program at the Stanford Medical Center. He served as director of medical development from 1980 to 1986 when he moved to the university's development office, with responsibility for large gift activity during the initial phase of Stanford's $1.1 billion Centennial Campaign. During that time he worked closely with Burr Gibson, Marts & Lundy’s retired chairman, who served as Stanford’s campaign counsel. John was named vice president for development in 1988, and during his tenure annual gift income increased from $189 million in 1988 to $911 million in 2008. He was named Sr. Vice President for University Resources and Executive Vice Chair of The Stanford Challenge in 2005. John is a recipient of the Cuthbertson Award recognizing exceptional service to Stanford University.
