Inspiring Philanthropy: A Study of Houston Board Giving

  • Published June 10, 2020

Since 2012, Marts & Lundy has studied the characteristics of boards at institutions that realize higher board member giving and higher total giving overall. Our work began by focusing on nonprofits in New York. Over the years, more than 125 organizations have participated in our research.

When we wanted to learn whether our findings held elsewhere, we turned to Houston. As one of our nation’s most philanthropic cities as well as a relatively young one when compared to the cities of the Northeast or Far West, we suspected Houston would be an ideal major metropolitan area to study.

While this report focuses on Houston, it does reference findings from New York  in order to enrich the way in which the data is understood.
